Lab to Society (L2S) – Online Training Program

L2S 1.0

Lab 2 Society (L2S) is a program designed to bridge the gap between laboratory research discoveries and their commercialization in society. The program focuses on determining whether promising lab technologies can be translated into viable solutions that promote sustainability. This approach is equally valuable for non-scientific startup ideas, as many startups fail due to a lack of understanding of their target market’s needs, leading to insufficient revenue. L2S helps founders identify potential customers with urgent, unmet needs—often described as “hair on fire” problems—and determine the value their product or service must provide to ensure these customers are willing to make a purchase. The program includes three key workshops:

  1. Session 1: Introduction to Customer Segments and Effective Communication.
  2. Session 2: Progress Check-ins during Office Hours.
  3. Session 3: Final Presentations and Planning for Next Steps.

L2S 2.0

Lab 2 Society (L2S 2.0) is an advanced extension of the L2S 1.0 program, tailored for participants who have already established a strong understanding of Product-Market Fit for their product or service. Building on the foundational insights from L2S 1.0, this program guides participants through the comprehensive development of their full business model. By the end of the program, participants will be able to clearly define their customer segments, identify the specific value their product or service offers in addressing customer problems, and develop strategies for reaching and maintaining relationships with these customers. Additionally, they will gain insights into total and serviceable market sizes, identify strategic partners, track key business metrics, and create detailed financial projections.

L2S 3.0

L2S 3.0 is a specialized program designed to assist participants in securing grant funding for the commercialization of their research. Geared toward those who have completed previous L2S programs or developed a fully formed business model, L2S 3.0 is ideal for founders with IP-based research seeking to apply for PFI, SBIR, or STTR grants. The program is delivered through three online sessions led by our TXST FIAP/ICORPS facilitators:

  1. Session 1: Identifying the Right Grant for Your Needs.
  2. Session 2: Meeting Grant Proposal Requirements, including Commercialization Plans and Next Steps.
  3. Session 3: Presenting Your Executive Summary, with feedback provided for future steps.
